New Access to Instructional Television Classes (ITV)

Did you know that Sacramento City College offers courses through Instructional Television?  ITV classes are taught from interactive classrooms located on the first floor of the Learning Resource Center.  Students can watch the class LIVE via television at their home or other location.  Students call-in to the studio to participate in the class discussion.  (Previously, access to ITV courses was limited to only those students who could come to campus or who had Comcast cable service in the Sacramento area.)

What’s changed?  Through the power of the Internet and video compression technologies, SCC now makes archived video streams of each ITV class available to students, free of charge.  Each ITV class is recorded and then compressed into a Windows Media file (.wmv for you techies) and posted to the Distance Education website (http://web.scc.losrios.edu/de/ITV_archive) where students can access it 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  That’s more time for you to rewind, review, and study for class.  We recommend a high-speed internet connection for best results.

Also under development for Distance Education students are podcasts of ITV courses.  Soon you’ll be able to get an ITV lecture “to go” on your iPod or MP3 player.  Check the Distance Education website for more information.

See you on TV!
