Library Orientations

Faculty Orientation Request    Drop-in Orientation Schedule
Faculty Orientation Feedback      PILOT

The librarians offer various types of library orientations that target the diverse needs and busy schedules of SCC faculty and students:

   1. Customized orientations are tailored to your pre-determined assignment or course objective. You choose the topic and the date of the orientation. Instructors attend these hands-on sessions with their classes during the regular class meeting time. The orientations cover either searching for books, e-books and journal/newspaper articles using the online Research Databases or best practices searching the Internet. They are normally held in the LR220 classroom. To request a customized orientation, please fill out our online form.

   2. The Face-to-Face Workshops are offered throughout the semester, including evenings, and Saturdays.  Students attend these on their own time. They must sign up in advance for these 50-minute sessions at the Reference Desk on the 2nd floor of the library. The workshops are held in LR 220.

Proof of Completion: Go to top Students will receive a "Proof of Completion" slip after successfully completing a face-to-face session and the accompanying quiz.

  3. PILOT is a self-paced interactive tutorial that teaches information literacy skills.  It contains six modules.  Each module is designed to take less than 60 minutes from registration through the final quiz.  Actual time spent on each module will vary depending on students' familiarity with the topics.  It's available 24/7 and is free for all students.

Proof of Completion: Each module in PILOT contains a self-grading quiz at the end.  Your students can send their quiz results to your email.  Please remind your students that they need to register at the beginning of PILOT to be able to email you their quiz results. Since students are allowed to take the quizzes multiple times, we recommend that students be required to pass the PILOT quizzes with a score of at least 85% or better.
