The SCC Library reserve collection consists of textbooks and other supplementary
materials made available for students to support them in their classes. The
materials on reserve are available to students for a short circulation period
-- 2 hours, 1 day, 3 days, 1 week -- according to the needs of the class and
the instructions we receive from the faculty. This is probably the most popular
service that the library offers, apart from the computer labs. Please consider
placing your textbook or other supplementary materials on reserve. Many students
would find it impossible to remain in school without this important service.
Request Items to be Placed on Print Reserve
Please bring any materials you wish to place on reserve to the Circulation Desk on the 2nd Floor of the Library. You will be asked to fill out a short request form providing us with guidelines about how to list the items in the library catalog and about the circulation period. If you have supplementary readings from a journal, class notes or practice tests to place on reserve, please consider electronic course reserves (see below).
Electronic Course Reserves are now available!
The library is pleased to announce the introduction of electronic course
reserves at Sacramento City College. Students will now be able to access full-text
articles and other documents that are placed on reserve via the LOIS library
catalog. While students have always been able to search for the material placed
on reserve, now they will be able to look at the actual documents (in Adobe
PDF format). In addition, they will have 24-hour access to this material from
remote locations.
The articles, tests, class notes, exercises and other documents that are placed
on electronic course reserve can be viewed on any computer (PC or Mac) connected
to the Internet with any current web browser and the free Adobe Acrobat Reader.
The Reserve section in the LOIS library catalog will list both electronic
and print items. Only items containing the phrase “Click on Title for Electronic
Copy” are available electronically. All other items are available in print
format in the library.
There may be some cases (such as multiple chapters in a book, more than 2
articles from a magazine or journal, or the entire text of a play) where copyright
restrictions may prevent us from placing all of your materials on reserve
unless prior permission from the copyright owner is obtained by the faculty
member or academic department. Please read “Guidelines
for Placing Materials on Electronic Course Reserve” for further information.
If your class is presented through, or supported by D2L, or if you
have course information mounted on a web page, the librarians can show you
how to embed a link to your list of reserve materials directly into your D2L page or web page. Please contact
Jeff Karlsen (558-2583) for more information.
