ARTStor: A Really Terrific Art Database & Trial Databases ~ Limited Time Only!
The library now subscribes to ARTstor, a library of over 400,000 digital images from many culture and time periods. Students and faculty can use these images in classroom presentations and assignments. Images have stable URLs that can be embedded in documents and Blackboard and course web pages.

Three levels of access to ARTstor:
All users can search and browse for images, save and print data and images, and view contents of public Shared Folders.
Users can also register with ARTstor to be able to save Image Groups, add Personal Notes, view contents of password-protected Shared Folders and download the Offline Image Viewer (similar to PowerPoint). If you have problems registering with an AOL email address, try an iMail or other address.
Instructors can request Instructor Privileges that will allow them to create Shared Folders, add Instructor Commentary and create Personal Collections. (You can contact Lorilie Roundtree at roundtl@scc.losrios.edu to request the authorization code and password for instructor privileges).
Access ARTstor in one click from an SCC campus computer or remotely from the library's database page, using a current student access card or staff ID card number and a library PIN. From the ARTstor home page, click on "Search and Browse for Images" and a new page will open (your browser must be able to open pop-ups). NOTE: This page takes several seconds to open. A link on the left menu allows you to register with ARTstor.
ARTstor offers online training sessions through WebEx. All that is required for these sessions is Internet access and a telephone. Go to http://artstor.webex.com and click on Training Center to see a schedule of training sessions offered.
ARTstor is a complex and dense resource, so it may take some exploration and experimentation on all our parts to learn to use it effectively. Contact Lorilie Roundtree with questions, or use the user support information on the web site.
Please note: If you make content from ARTstor available on the Web, it must be in an access-restricted site.
Trial Databases ~ Limited Time Only!
The library runs trials of new research databases in order to see how well they support the SCC curriculum. This fall we will post trial databases to the SCC library database page for short periods of time. Find the Trial Databases link in the lower left corner of the database page. Right now you can try out these two:

Trial databases frequently require the use of a user name and password. Please call the library reference desk (558-2461) for this information (we can’t post it to the web). |
