How to Enroll
We want you to do well at Sacramento City College. To help you, we have outlined five steps you need to take. If you follow these steps carefully, you will get off to a good start
The following students may skip steps 2-4:
- Students who hold an AA/AS degree or higher
- Students returning to SCC after an absence
- Students transferring from one of the Los Rios Community Colleges (Cosumnes River College, Eldorado Center, Folsom Lake College, and American River College)
- Students transferring from another college
NOTE: We encourage all new Sacramento City College students to complete all five steps.
Step 1: Admission/Application
Where
Admission applications are available at the Admissions Office, Rodda North Building, Room 159, the Counseling Center, Room 147, or the Welcome Center, Room 138.You are eligible for admissions if:
- you have earned a high school diploma or the equivalent (such as a GED or certificate of proficiency issued by the State Board of Education) or
- you are over 18 years old (a high school diploma or equivalent is not required).
Step 2: Assessment
To assist students in selecting courses, the Assessment Center provides testing for English/English as a Second Language, reading and mathematics. These tests are scheduled regularly with no fee. Students can meet with a counselor to review assessment results and schedule appropriate classes. Also, examinations to meet reading and math competencies for the Associate Degree are administered by the Assessment Center.
Where
The Assessment Center is located in the Student Services Building, Room 121. Assessment calendars with test dates and times are available at the Assessment Center or you can call the center at 558-2541. Office hours are 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m., Monday - Thursday and 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
Step 3: Orientation
Orientation provides you with important information about the college, programs and services available, what is expected of you, and what you can expect of the college. All new students are strongly encouraged to attend orientation. The information you receive will help you during your time at SCC. Students who attend orientation will receive priority registration.
Where
Orientation appointments can be made by calling 558-2147/2148 or made in person at Rodda North Building, Room 155.
Step 4: Counseling
As part of the orientation process, you will meet with a Counselor to discuss your major, educational goals, courses required, and develop a course plan. You should maintain a close relationship with your counselor throughout your stay at SCC.
Where
The Counseling Center is located in Rodda North Building, Room 147. For additional information or a counseling appointment, call 558-2204. Office hours are 7:30 a.m. - 8:00 p.m., Monday - Thursday and 7:30 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
Step 5: Registration
Registration is the last step of the Orientation process. After meeting with a Counselor, staff will be available to assist you with scheduling your classes.
There are two ways you can register:
- Telephone Enrollment - You can sign-up for classes by telephone at (916) 263-0999 or 1-800-773-0999. Complete information and instructions are listed in the class schedule (usually page 5). You can also access current registration information online.
- Registering in Person - You will need to complete an "Official Registration Form" by listing class code number, course, days, hours and units for all classes. Forms are available at the Admissions Office, Rodda North Building, Room 159, Counseling Center, Room 147 or the Welcome Center, Room 138. Submit the completed form to the Admissions Office.
Usually, registration is based on your enrollment status and the last four digits of your social security number. Dates and times to register are listed in the class schedule or you can access the information at the web site underlined above.
Priority 1
New students who have gone through orientation and continuing students enrolled last semester at any Los Rios campus or center.Priority 2
