Top Story: The Sac City Panthers women's golf team won their first ever California State Championship on Tuesday afternoon at Kings Country Club in Hanford, CA. The Panthers (338) started the 2nd day of competition 9 strokes back of Bakersfield College (329), and would finish with a final round score of 330. Sac City's combined two-day tournament score of 668, was 5 strokes better than State Runner-Up Bakersfield College, who shot a 344 in their final round and finished with a 673. Leading the way for the Panthers were Kayla Riede, who was the Individual Runner-Up, with a combined 155 (79/76 respectively) and Erika Salinas, who finished in a tie for 4th place overall with her combined 160 (81/79). Both Kayla and Erika are State Medalists for their individual finishes, awarded to the top 6 golfers. Not only was it the Panther's first State Championship, but it was also the first women's golf State Championship by a Northern California school since its inception in 1995. Coach Tim Kiernan is also the only coach in SCC history to win State Championships in 2 different sports, 1 in women's golf and 3 in softball.
