She also holds the two best golf scores in Sacramento City College history with a 68 and a 72.

Male Scholar Athlete of the Year: Jason Singh (Swimming)

Jason Singh is one of the greatest swimmers in Sac City history and was an All-American in five different events (with more to come as a result of this season’s successes).  He was a member of 3 relay teams that broke school records – the 200 freestyle relay, 400 freestyle relay and the 800 freestyle relay.  He also broke 3 other individual records in the 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke.  Jason also finds himself on the top 5 list for 5 other events as a result of his 2009 times.  He already holds the school record in the 200 backstroke as well, setting that mark in 2008.

Jason also finds time to help coach at Cosumnes River aquatics club and volunteer at stroke clinics, along with being the treasurer for the SCC Psychology club. Coach Jason Craighead says that “Jason is an outstanding ambassador for Sacramento City College. He has excelled in both the academic and athletic setting through his won hardwork, dedication and perseverance.”

In Jason’s words, “swimming at Sacramento City College has taught me what hard work is. Not only have my times improved, but my academic goals have improved. Working hard athletically has taught me to work hard academically.”

Academically, Jason currently has a 3.52 GPA at SCC and is currently choosing between UC Davis, UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara and UC Santa Cruz.

Female Scholar Athlete of the Year: Keri Waller (Volleyball)

Keri Waller led the Panthers to a 2nd place finish in the Big 8 Conference and a 5th place finish in the State. Keri was named to the All-Big 8 Conference team and the All Northern California team.  She finished in the top ten in Northern California averaging 2.92 kills per game, and in the top fifteen with .60 aces per game.  Keri is in the Sac City College record books with 505 career kills (2nd all-time) and 145 blocks (4th all-time).

Keri was a co-captain for the Panthers this year and also finds time to volunteer at community and youth volleyball and basketball camps, in addition to participating in SCC’s Shriner’s Hospital event, while working 20+ hours per week. Coach Laurie Nash states that Keri “was a team leader on and off the court. She has high morals and she never waivers from her principles. She is one of the most dedicated, well-rounded student athletes that I have ever coached at Sac City and is the athlete who will give back to the sport and the college.”

In Keri’s words, “My very full schedule over the past two years has taught me the value of accomplishing my goals as well as the art of time management. The busy schedule I have learned to maintain and attempted to excel in while at Sac City, I believe, will prepare me for the next level in my education and athletic career.”
