Welcome to Sacramento City College! You join more than 22,000 students on our main campus and at our outreach centers. You have chosen to attend SCC at exactly the right time. Spring 2007 saw some exciting changes: fees were decreased to just $20 per unit and the new parking structure opened, which increased on-campus student parking by 1,954 spaces. The parking structure is well-lit and has 28 security cameras, so don't risk a $35 ticket for exceeding the two-hour parking limit in William Land Park! Take advantage of the campus lots by purchasing an affordable parking pass for just $30 per semester or $20 with a BOG fee waiver.

Our mission is to provide programs that meet your educational and professional needs. SCC is renowned for its outstanding instructors and dynamic fields of study. We offer 96 majors that lead to Associate Degrees, and the opportunity to earn a career certificate or certificate of completion in almost all of these programs. Whether you plan to transfer to a four-year college or university or complete your education at Sacramento City College, earning an Associate Degree, career certificate, or certificate of completion will guarantee opportunities for educational advancement and higher-paid employment.

As an academic community, SCC offers a rich, diverse campus life with opportunities for self-expression through student clubs, cultural activities, athletic programs, honors programs (including membership in Phi Theta Kappa), music, theater and student governance. The Associated Student Government (ASG) and the campus community encourage your participation in campus policy-making by volunteering to serve on college committees. To find out more about the SCC ASG, visit their website at http://web.scc.losrios.edu/asg/.

During my time as an undergraduate, I found certain strategies to be very useful. First, get to know your instructors. Second, use the library. Third, form study and support groups. And finally, use the campus resources (listed on pages 27-35 of this guide); they are here for you.

This guide offers you invaluable information. I hope that by the end of the 2007-08 academic year you find that it's falling apart from so much use! Best wishes to you for a successful school year!

Sincerely,

Arthur Q. Tyler Signature
