Online Workshop, Fall 2009   

The SCC Library will be holding a 90-minute, live, online workshop on November 11 from 7-8:30 PM. If your professor has offered extra credit for taking drop-in orientation "B" (article databases), this workshop will fulfill the requirement. The workshop will take place entirely on the Web; this means you can attend it using your home computer (see requirements below).

You will connect to the session via your web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.). If you are not comfortable using your browser, including installing browser plugins and managing multiple browser windows or tabs, this workshop is not for you!

Participation Requirements

IMPORTANT: you must successfully complete all technical and set-up requirements below before registering

Minimum Technical Requirements:

  1. Check Computer Requirements (note: microphone or headset NOT required)
  2. Internet connection speed: broadband (cable or DSL or better recommended)
  3. Listening options:
    • computer speakers
    • or headphones (microphone optional) or headset
    • or telephone (toll-free number will be e-mailed to you)
    • closed-captioning will be provided
  4. Talking options:
    • computer microphone or headset
    • or no talking (text-chat only): if you do not have a microphone or headset to speak into, you can still take this workshop and communicate using text chat. If you type very slowly, this is not a good option.

Registration

The session is limited to 15 participants. Please register early!

Before registering, take the following steps:

  1. Perform a compatibility check on the computer you will be using during the workshop.
  2. Make sure you are able to access library resources from off-campus by logging into your record in the LOIS catalog. If you cannot log in successfully following the instructions on that page, please contact the library before registering.

If you've satisfied those requirements, you're ready!
Register for the workshop

1-2 days after registration you will receive an e-mail containing instructions on how to access the workshop.

Getting Credit

At the end of the workshop participants will be given an online exercise to complete on their own. A librarian will notify professors upon successful completion of the exercise.
