Personal History

I was born in southern California in a suburb of Los Angeles. I attended Hawthorne High and spent one year at USC and received most of my education at UCLA. My BA is in English and I have an MA and PhD in Comparative Literature. I have been in Sacramento since 1982 and have taught at UC Davis, CSUS, and ARC. Sacramento City College was always my first choice for teaching assignments; I love the students, the freedom I have in the classroom, and the administrative support for faculty and students. I live close to the college in the midtown area with my husband and two daughters, ages 2 and 6.

Courses I Teach

I enjoy teaching at all levels, but my real love is literature. I developed the Honors World Literature courses, English 23H and 24H, a few years ago. I also teach the first semester survey of English Literature, English 35.

I currently teach an ISP English 1A class using a textbook that I wrote myself. The book contains over forty articles, stories, and poems from writers around the world. I used the text in manuscript form for three years, so it is wonderful to be able to use it in published form.
