The Los Rios District has chosen Desire to Learn (D2L) as our course management tool this year.
To reach it try: www.losrios.edu/lrc/lrc_elearning.php
In addition to the class lecture hours, students will need to spend time on a computer connected to the internet to complete the homework assignments. Students should allow 1-3 or more hours of computer lab time for every one hour spent in D2L. You must already have a background in some programming language to take this course because we will build advanced programs in this class. You should know how to hand code XHTML including CSS, tables, lists, links and images. The students who do not pass this class, got behind on their work and never caught up. Do not let that happen to you. Stay current in the course.
Course Description: Description: This course builds upon previous web publishing and web programming concepts using the PhP (Hypertext Preprocessor) language. The primary focus of this course is the systematic study of the scripting language PhP as it applies to the development of interactive web sites. Topics include server side includes, dynamic XHTML, forms, scripting with Php, and web database interactivity with MySQL.
Text(s): not required.
Suggested Reference Materials: Books with titles that include Php and MySQL.
Required Supplies: 4 photos of yourself at various ages from baby to adult. A computer connected to the Internet, where you are able to download and install software (such as FTP) and create files on the hard disk drive. You must have a way to upload your Web pages to the class Web Server each week. I will provide a free student copy of WS-FTP that you may use on your PC to upload and download from the Web server.
General Aims: To teach how to make dynamic pages for the World Wide Web using Php and MySQL.
Specific Objectives: As a result of successful completion of this course the student should be able to:

- define the core structures, statements, and syntax of the middleware Web scripting language.
- program functions using the middleware Web scripting language.
- analyze Web publishing problems and situations and develop solutions in the middleware Web scripting environment.
- construct a database-driven Web application.
- create interactive Web applications.
- choose PhP as the correct middleware scripting language to meet the needs of the intended audience.
