Ah yes, the end of the semester is nearly upon us. It’s too easy to get all sentimental and think about things like how small your classes are now compared to the first weeks, and all those new people you’ve met and how they’ve become friends, girlfriends/boyfriends, or mortal enemies.

For those of you who do save your school work (I do, just to have some bonfire fuel come the night of the final final) you have got to admit how interesting it is to look over everything you’ve done. Reading over that research paper that you slaved over having procrastinated on the research until the day before it was due. It’s disheartening to think that this stupid piece of paper is the culmination of all your work. Very anticlimactic.

When I look over all the work I had done over the semester, I notice many things I wish I would have done differently. I wish I never slacked off in that class. I wish I would have taken the tests seriously and not waited until the morning of to study. I wish I poured a little more of my soul into that writing assignment.

But, as someone who considers himself a writer, I have learned to live with not being able to find the right words to use and just running with what I have. It will
drive you insane if you pour over the same sentence until you think you get it right, because later when you read it, you’ll find at least one word you wished you’d changed.
I try to apply that mantra to life.

Yet, you can’t be like Axl Rose and obsess over creating the perfect formulation of the disturbed vision in your head. Life moves on, and so should you.

Words, stupid words
