What Happens if I Drop Below 12 Units?

EOPS students are required to enroll and complete 12 units each semester with at least a 2.00 GPA. If you drop below 12 units, you must complete an "EOPS Student Petition" immediately and explain your circumstances. Petitions are available in the EOPS office.

Who do I notify if my address has changed?

It is your responsibility to inform the EOPS office of any changes in name, address and or telephone number. The EOPS office will change your records for EOPS, financial aid and Admissions.  Failure to respond to any EOPS letters, notices or telephone calls due to an incorrect address or telephone number may result in termination from the EOPS Program.

What happens if I miss the EOPS Priority Advising Pre- Approval session?

If you miss the Priority Advising pre-approval session, you will not be able to take advantage of priority registration. In addition, you will need to meet with a counselor to fulfill your responsibility and remain active in the EOPS program.

Do I have to meet with a counselor once each semester?

As an EOPS student, you are required to complete three mandatory contacts each semester. Your first contact is meeting with a counselor. These responsibilities are clearly stated in the Mutual Responsibility Contract, which you signed at the EOPS orientation.

What happens when a student does not complete their three mandatory contacts by the deadline dates?

The student will be terminated from the program. If there are extenuating circumstances, the student has the option to petition to the program coordinator for reinstatement into the program.

What happens when a student does not respond to a letter sent by the EOPS office?

If the student does not respond, he/she may be terminated from the program. It is very important that you keep EOPS informed of all address and telephone number changes.

Do I have to see an EOPS counselor to fulfill the EOPS counseling responsibility?

You have the option to meet with an EOPS, SCC or CalWORKs Counselor. If you meet with a SCC or CalWORKs counselor, you will need to pick up a Counselor Contact Form from the EOPS Office and have it signed by the counselor. You must return the completed Contact Form to the EOPS Office immediately.

Do I need to complete an educational plan each semester with a counselor?

Every student must have a four semesters Educational Plan in his/her file.

You only need to update an Educational Plan if you have changed your major, added or deleted classes, or will attend more semesters than listed on your current Educational Plan.

If an EOPS student has a personal problem, will the information discussed remain confidential?

Yes, all matters discussed with a counselor, including personal information, is considered by EOPS Staff and student help as confidential.

Does the EOPS Office complete recommendation forms or write letters of recommendation for students?

The EOPS Office can provide you with recommendation letters. You must first complete a student questionnaire and return it to the EOPS Office. The EOPS Coordinator or EOPS Counselor will complete the recommendation letter within five working days.

Does EOPS offer services for summer session?

The EOPS Office is open during the summer for questions or assistance. We also offer the EOPS Summer Bridge; a college transitional program for first-time college students. Students attend a six-week session where they learn what college is all about.
