At the alternate media department, it's our job to produce your books and other class materials in a format that is accessible for you. We want to finish with your materials before you need them, but in order to meet that goal, we need to hear from you as soon as you enroll in a class. Here's how to get started:

Braille What's this?
Conversion of textbooks and class materials into tactile written language. Note: Braille is time consuming to create. Students who would like Braille should request materials at least one to two months before the semester begins.Close
Conversion of graphic materials into tactile form. Note: Tactile graphics are time-consuming to create. Students who would like Braille should request materials at least one to two months before the semester begins.Close
Conversion of textbooks and class materials into electronic format. Most e-text is used with assistive computer technology.Close
Conversion of e-text into an audio format, such as MP3. Portable MP3 players are available for checkout from the alternate media department. The text may be put onto an audio CD for use with a CD player if the student prefers that to an MP3.Close
Students who are blind or have visual impairments can request that class materials be converted into various large-type formats. Reasonable advance notice is needed.Close
An electronic text format that can often preserve the visual layout of a document.Close
An electronic text format that combines features of electronic text and audio, and utilizes advanced navigation.Close
Not all content will work in all formats, but we'll to our best to work with your preferred format.

The alternate media request form is available here, but you'll need to meet with a counselor before submitting it for the first time. Call 558-2087 to set up an appointment, or visit during our drop-in hours.
We'll discuss the best way to meet your needs, and work out a time for you to drop off your materials.
