Textbook:        Microsoft Windows XP, Mary Kemper, Course Technology

                        MicroSoft Office 2003, Professional Edition, Halvorson, Course Technology

Supplies: Two diskettes, 3.5, 1.44 MB, High Density. (or other storage media) One for work, one for backup. Notebook for class notes Folder for exercise handouts

Objectives: Introduction to computers and how they will be used in home and business. Emphasis on microcomputers, terminology, and Windows and basic Office applications. This course is specifically designed for students who want a general, non-technical course in computers.

Participant Responsibilities:

Í     Attend class. Work will go quickly and there will be assignments due after every lab. You are responsible for all material and instruction missed due to absences

Í     Read all assigned materials, including textbook and handouts.

Í     Complete all assignments and exercises on time. Files are due at the end of the lab of the next class.

Í     Keep all returned papers for verification until you have received your final grade in the mail

Í     Participate in class discussions and exercises. Borderline grades will be determined by class participation.

Í     Follow all computer laboratory rules. Any inappropriate language or images on projects will result in an automatic 0.

Í     Be considerate. No cell phones or beepers during class. No children in classrooms.

Í     Cooperate on projects, but do not copy. Any plagiarism, copying or cheating will earn 0 points - for all participants. Cases may be referred to the Dean and/or College Administration.

Í     Enjoy the experience. Computer skills will help you in all your future classes and work.

Office hours are in B221b Mon/Wed 10-11 am, Tues & Thurs 8-9 am and Tues 11-12,

Exercises and projects from the textbook and handouts will be assigned every day. Plan on staying in the lab until the daily assignment is completed. Your work will culminate in a final project that will demonstrate your computer competency.
