Schedule: First Eight Weeks – August 27 to October 19

Objectives: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to successfully:

  • understand the fundamentals of designing an effective presentation in both content and appearance;
  • be able to create presentation graphics using appropriate multimedia tools and other techniques;
  • be familiar with the proper presentation delivery techniques so the audience accepts the speaker and is receptive to his/her message; and
  • develop creativity and foster an appreciation of the presentation as a useful management tool in the workplace.  

Participant Responsibilities:

  • Keep on schedule, work will go quickly and there will be assignments due every week.
  • Read all assigned materials, including textbook, lecture notes, and handouts.
  • Pass tests and final projects. Make arrangements with instructor for on-site, IDed assessment.
  • Complete all assignments and exercises on time. Check out the rules for late work
  • Participate in online class discussions and exercises. Borderline grades will be determined by class participation. Student must be current in all work and have extreme circumstances to request an incomplete
  • Any inappropriate language or images on projects will result in an automatic 0.
  • Cooperate on projects, but do not copy. Any copying or cheating will earn 0 points - for all participants.
  • Enjoy the experience. Competent presentation skills will help in all your future classes and work.

Schedule: Instructor reserves the right to make any necessary changes to the schedule. Exercises and projects from the textbook and handouts will be assigned every week.

Plan on setting aside at least 6 hours per week to complete assignments—more time if you read or type slowly, have difficulty with the language, or have trouble getting access to a computer. 

Office hours: B221b Mon-Wed 8 am - 9 am, Tues-Thurs 9:30-10:30am, Mon online - email 7-8 pm - email will be answered quickly. You may email me any time, I check my email about 4 times a day. I only check my phone messages during my regular office hours—so email is the best method for a quick reply.

Late Assignments:

Unless otherwise noted, all assignments are due in folder Monday midnight. Assignments submitted on time will receive earned points and the opportunity to correct errors for full points.

Assignments submitted after the deadline will be credited points earned minus 5% per day. There will be no opportunity for corrections. Assignments submitted after the end of the 5-day grace period will not be accepted.

Be sure to check lecture notes for specific instructions. Do not go by this syllabus alone.
