Alternate media is defined as “instructional materials, textbooks, and college publications, which are converted into formats that are accessible and usable by individuals with disabilities.”
In other words it is the same material, just in a different form!
The purpose of alternate media is to allow access to people who, due to a vision or processing disability, cannot easily use standard print materials.
An example of alternate media is a book, originally published on a printing press, which was recreated as a Braille book.
1. It's the right thing to do!
2. It's the LAW!
