SACRAMENTO SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL THE COMEDY OF ERRORS & MACBETH ![]() Three Gentlemen of Verona Shakespeare Festival 2006 The Comedy of Errors has the fewest lines and yet the most twists, turns, and well, errors, of any of Shakespeare's plays (which is saying a lot). The tale includes family separation, a nun, a courtesan, mistaken identity, imprisonment and finally, family reunion-you name it, The Comedy of Errors has it. This is one of Shakespeare's few plays that observes the Classical unities with one main action and one physical location. The witty dialogue and farcical mix-ups will have you laughing so that time will slip by and you may ask as you leave the park if "É time comes stealing on by night and day?" (The Comedy of Errors, Act IV, Scene II) Macbeth, on the other hand, is an archetypal drama that exposes the dangers of lust for wealth and power and, as one of Shakespeare's bloodier plays, complements the bewitchingly comic buffoonery of The Comedy of Errors, offered earlier in the summer. Macbeth's tragic flaw is his own ambition, which leads him to betray his king and, later, murder his friend Banquo. Macbeth is a cautionary tale and in the end Macbeth says that his life of greed and murder was "Éfull of sound and fury/Signifying nothing" (Macbeth, Act V, Scene V). You will be stunned, appalled and infuriated by this magnificent story. ![]() Romeo and Juliet Shakespeare Festival 2006 Set in William Land Park next to the botanical garden, the natural setting of the amphitheatre has not only aesthetic beauty but the festival also provides creature comforts. Welcome Village at the entrance to the park features cushions and concessions for sale and there are now giant cooling fans throughout the stands. The amphitheatre box office opens at 6pm each night, the gates open at 6:30 p.m., and the performances begin at 8:30 p.m. Children under six are not admitted but are invited to enjoy the new Shakespeare Lite performances (go to www.sacramentoshakespeare.net for more information). Very low lawn chairs are allowed in the bowl, and picnics are welcome.
