"The best part [of coaching] is to see them smile, have a great time, and make sure that they get some results while they're at the camp. The results, though, depend on the age group and the kid. I go on a kid-by-kid basis; I see what kind of kid s/he is and how s/he responds to coaching. Some kids are out here [at camp] to have a good time and other kids are trying to become the best player they can be. So, I try not to push them but to accommodate them by giving them my knowledge and teaching them the things that I've learned. If they want to learn, I'm here to help; if they just want to have fun, I'm going to help them have fun. I love coaching because my coaches over the years have taught me so much that I feel like I have a lot of knowledge to pass on. I want to be a coach when I'm older, so helping these kids now is a real benefit to both them and me."

Panther Sports Camps

Sacramento City College's Panther Sports Camps combine fun and fundamentals in their week-long camp sessions. SCC head coaches and current and former SCC athletes provide individual attention, teach skill-building exercises, encourage team spirit, and motivate young athletes to do their best through positive teaching methods. There is an athletic trainer on duty at all times during the camps.

The North Gym is currently being remodeled. Because of the construction, the camps will be limited to volleyball and soccer. We look forward to holding next year's camps in our new facility!

"I went to the basketball and volleyball camps and I had a lot of fun. I'm really into acting and dancing and singing so I don't have time during school to participate in team sports but I really like them. I had a great time being on a team and learning more about basketball and volleyball and I want to do the same thing next summer."

"I look forward to going out there and being able to transfer some of my knowledge to the kids. Seeing them at that age makes me understand that I've come far enough to really give back. I didn't have as much coaching at their ages as they do and the younger kids can get a lot more knowledge a lot younger [than I]. The kids are at all skill levels and some want to go to the next level and some want to have fun. The little kids usually want to have fun, but all ages are willing to learn and they look up to us as college players. I just want to make sure the kids learn something they didn't know before."

"I went to the baseball camp and I went to the basketball and soccer camps. I liked baseball because everyone was very encouraging and I didn't feel like I had to compete but I learned a lot. I liked basketball because I love the sport and it was fun and I loved being able to play inside on the court everyday. I don't play soccer on a team, so being able to play during the summer was a lot of fun. I loved all the camps and I want to go again this summer to everything I can go to."
