Photographs

Graphic Impressions archives photographs of buildings, general college and campus shots, and photos that have been used in publications. These are available electronically at no cost. Graphic Impressions hires photographers upon request if the publication is being done through their office or may take digital photographs, which will be incorporated into the cost of a publication.

Terry Hajek in media services takes digital photographs for the schedule of classes and can E-mail these to staff who would like to reproduce them in a publication. He maintains a file that goes back to the 70s and will scan photos upon request. Terry is available to take photographs for special purposes and usually there is no charge. He also assists instructors and administrators with the design and production of instructional video programs.

David Steutel, a former student with his own business, has been taking pictures on campus for nearly 10 years and maintains a photo file. He will reprint pictures for a fee. David may also be hired to cover an event. He can be reached at Western Media Imaging, 929-2682. Photographs of people who are clearly distinguishable require a photo release.

Photographs should reflect the diversity of our college community.

Tips to Breakthrough Publications by Noel-Levitz

  • Invest your first resources in great photography. Your stock photo files are not good enough. And make every photo a marketing message - such as academics in the context of location.

  • Plan ahead. Arrange to have a photographer present at events you may want to feature in a publication or on the Web.

  • Research shows students look first at photos, then content within a photo, then caption by a photo, then display quotes, then headlines and subheads and finally (if they're really interested in you) the narrative. Write accordingly.
